The Atmosphere of Your Home

The Atmosphere of YOUR Home
By DeAnza Duron

Every home has a distinct atmosphere.

It may be described as energetic, bright and happy, full of music & laughter! Some homes can feel dark, unhappy or just impersonal.

How would your friends describe what they feel when they walk into YOUR home?

Even more importantly, how would YOUR FAMILY describe what they feel in their own home!

A WISE PARENT TAKES RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE ATMOSPHERE THEIR FAMILY LIVES IN. For all of us, it is a work in progress, but we must begin by asking ourselves, “ How can we elevate the various aspects of the atmosphere of our homes?”

To simply get us started, Here is a quick checklist in 3 key areas for making your home feel more inviting, warm and friendly.

Why not choose one specific item in each of the following 3 lists to target for 1 or 2 weeks to work on? Once I move ahead and enjoy the change in one area, it always motivates me to make further improvements.

LIST 1:

I think most of us are challenged in just the basic setup, daily maintenance and flow of our homes. Here is a list to help us evaluate and improve these logistics:

  • Orderliness & Cleanliness.

  • Good Lighting

  • Happy, Soothing Music

  • Comfortable, Relaxing Sitting Areas

  • Fun Snacks & Varied Meals

I definitely need to be more consistent in keeping fresh snacks for unexpected company or just for my family. It is a challenge but so rewarding to be consistent & prepared.

If I’m honest, every area on all 3 lists inspire me to try harder and make small steps forward!

LIST 2

Besides the logistics in List 1, the atmosphere of your home is deeply affected by the tolerated unpleasantness  Here are several important behavioral guidelines/goals that are not complicated, but crucial:

  • Minimize yelling from room to room

  • Minimize interrupting one another

  • Minimize sarcasm

  • Okay… NO Sarcasm

  • Minimize complaining

  • Minimize comparing ourselves with others

  • Minimize YOUR WORKLOAD!         Expect EVERYONE TO HELP WITH HOUSE MAINTENANCE & CLEANING.

I need to work on not interrupting people! What do you want to work on? Actually, I need to read this list everyday!!

Good news: if we learn to minimize negative areas, we can eventually break these bad habits and perspectives!

LIST 3

Finally, there are 3 CHOICES that will bring change to the Emotional climate of your

home:

  • Speak Grateful Words

  • Compliment & encourage people in your home

  • Declare good things will happen today

I think of myself as positive, but I want to,  DECLARE OUT LOUD good things over my family, more than ever before! Don’t just THINK IT…. SAY IT!!!

What if you chose JUST ONE IMPROVEMENT A WEEK?

The reason we must be INTENTIONALLY SPECIFIC in choosing areas to improve the atmosphere of our homes & families is because it will not happen by accident.

CHANGE HAPPENS WHEN A PERSON HAS A SPECIFIC GOAL IN MIND

Can you see the changes you have chosen? SEE IT, DO IT, AND KEEP MARKING THEM OFF YOUR DO LIST, ONE BY ONE!

Be patient with yourself, and your family! CELEBRATE  THE SMALL CHANGES! And keep the “vision” in front of you!

Everyone will notice the improvements! NEVER GIVE UP!❤️
